Last night at our prayer meeting at church one of the guys mentioned that he had been reading about the old time preachers. He talked about Wigglesworth, Wesley, Finney and Spurgeon and spoke about how bold they were in reaching people for Christ.

This prompted me to dig out one of my old books I read years ago titled, “Wigglesworth: A man who walked with God” by George Stormont. I remember as I read through it that Wigglesworth inspired me with his efforts. His love and passion for Jesus really spoke to me.

I thought I would have a quick read through the book again. I opened it and on the first page the writer related a story of Wigglesworth which he said summed the man up perfectly…

When Wigglesworth stayed in our home once, he came down early one morning and told me, “God spoke to me on your bed”.

“What did he say?”, I asked.

“He said, Wigglesworth, I am going to burn you all up, until there is no more Wigglesworth, only Jesus”.

Standing at the foot of our stairs, he raised his hands to heaven, and with tears running down his cheeks, he cried, “O God, come and do it! I don’t want them to see me anymore – only Jesus!”

I don’t know about you, but my prayer for today is the same as Wigglesworth’s all those years ago. “O God, come and do it! I don’t want them to see me anymore – only Jesus!”

It is 3.37am and I am awake! That is not uncommon for me as I am one of those strange people that only needs about five or so hours of sleep per night. When I tell people that they are usually horrified and they tell me that unless they get their eight hours every night they are a mess!

Sleep is a funny thing. We all seem to have our natural patterns of sleep. Some need more and some need less. My wife and kids are good sleepers. They are more towards the eight to nine hours per night. If they don’t get that they seem to be tired for a few days.

For me, I have to make sure I don’t go to bed too early otherwise I will be awake in the middle of the night. Hmmm like now! In years gone by I would stare at the roof and get frustrated about not being able to get back to sleep. I would roll over and over and toss and turn. Now I actually enjoy it!

It is a good chance for me to get up and spend some quiet time alone. I can pray, read or just spend some time thinking about life and my faith. It is a good chance to get things sorted in my mind. After an hour or two or three, I usually start to get tired again and head off to bed and drift off. Sometimes that last hour or two of sleep is so deep that I feel like I have been asleep all night.

So how about you – what are your sleep patterns? Do you need 8-10 hours a night? Or are you one of those strange zombie people like me? I would be interested to know…

Having your name recorded in a book can make a huge difference to your life. Just think about it for a moment. Having your name on the book at the Department of Transport means you are allowed to drive a car and having your name on the election roles means you can vote.

No matter what we do in life it is important to be recorded in a book somewhere as it means you can get an education, receive health care when needed and even enables us to purchase a home for our families.

In the Bible it talks about an important book. It is called the Lamb’s Book of Life. The Bible tells us that this Book records all the names of the people who receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

In Revelations chapter 21 it talks about this Book being vital if you want to enter heaven. It says, “Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life” (Revelations 21:27).

The Bible also says that those whose names are not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will miss out on heaven. Revelations 20:15 makes it pretty clear – “And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire”.

Today I want to ask you some questions. Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life? Have you received Jesus as your Lord and Saviour? My hope is that you will be able to say yes to these questions.

If you are not sure or you would like to make sure your name is written in this Book and you want to be assured you will enter heaven one day. Please visit this page http://www.passionaustralia.org/blog/peace-with-god/

Do you ever have one of those days where you feel like your head is full? Whatever you try to do you feel like it takes extra effort to concentrate and get started. Someone might ask you to do something that normally you would do with ease, but for some reason it seems like a major effort to get it done…or even started!

That is exactly how I feel today!

I am glad on days like this we God in whom we can turn to. As I was trying to get going this morning I prayed and God prompted me to look up Psalm 46:10. It says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”.

The first two words said it all for me – be still. I need to stop and be still and focus on God. Somehow when I do this it always seems to free up my mind and freshen me up.

Dear Lord, in those times my my mind seems too full from all the things that are going on. Please help me to stop and focus on You. Help me to be still and know that you are God. Amen.
